Development considered for Henry Street and Roosevelt Way

The Henry/ Roosevelt Neighborhood Committee announces two important public meetings regarding disposition of the stairway and hillside at Henry Street and Roosevelt Way. The hillside, which is an Open Space District, was recently declared "surplus property," and transferred to the Mayor's Office of Housing. The site is currently being evaluated for possible uses, including development of low-income housing, or sale to private interests, with the proceeds used to fund housing elsewhere.

The first meeting, sponsored by the neighborhood committee, will be on July 6 at 7 p.m. in the Davies Medical Center Auditorium. Supervisor Dufty and staff from the Mayor's Office of Housing have been invited to speak about the issue and answer questions. A public discussion will follow.

The second meeting is a public hearing before the Surplus Property Citizen's Advisory Committee. This committee will make an initial recommendation for use of the site, subject to final approval by the Board of Supervisors.

The public hearing will be held at City Hall on Monday, August 15, at 4 p.m., in Room 408.
