A Community Workshop with the City Planning Department and Supervisor Bevan Dufty

By Peter Albert, DTNA Board President

The Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association is planning to hold a community workshop with the Planning Department and Supervisor Bevan Dufty on May 12, 2003. At this workshop, we will review the "Better Neighborhoods" plan.

The city has developed a plan for the Market and Octavia area, which includes parts of Duboce Triangle. DTNA hopes to look over the recommendations in this Plan that help make our neighborhood safer, healthier and more beautiful, and then, as a community, identify a few specific projects we would like to carry forward and implement.

The choices in the Plan are many and varied: traffic calming, landscaping, street beautification, new bike routes, transit enhancements, affordable housing, crosswalks, signals, parks, etc. These might all seem to be great ideas, some more controversial than others, but the fiscal reality is that the City could never afford to build them all at once. At this workshop, we will attempt to focus on a few that we can line up behind and advocate to the City for funding. Which "few" these are depends on what we care most about. If you have strong ideas, please come to the meeting prepared to share them.

If you are unfamiliar with the Plan or its recommendations, this is the time to come to a meeting and leam about them. In addition, attending the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association meeting is a good way to meet your neighbors and let the association know of the concerns of your block.

A good meeting turnout is needed to make sure the priorities we identify reflect the community as a whole. I hope to see many of my neighbors, all planning ahead for a better neighborhood at the DTNA General meeting on May 12!

For the May meeting, the Duboce Triangle Neighborhood Association will meet at the Harvey Milk Center for Recreational Arts, at the comer of Duboce and Scott Streets, on Monday, May 12, 2003 starting at 7:00 p.m. The room should be well-marked for the evening. We look forward to seeing everyone on May 12.
