By Peter Albert, DTNA Board President
The property owners of 2140-2146 Market have submitted plans to the City for a 22-unit housing and commercial development on the site of Lucky 13 and the vacant lot next door. When the DTNA Board briefly reviewed these plans at our last Board meeting, we raised concerns about the impact of this proposed development on the properties on Boynton Court: specifically, the way the rear of the new building apprached the existing houses.
We are hopeful that the rear of this new housing development, which we understand remains a huge need in this city, can be redesigned to minimize its impact on the Boynton Court homes. Boynton Court is an odd, historic fragment of late 1800's neighborhood, and today the houses are a charming and well-loved contributor to the overall character of this area. We feel that preserving Boynton Court's integrity is not only desirable in the scope of this development, but easily accommodated, and we are prepared to present this case to the City. Hopefully, the developer will reflect these changes and resubmit plans that we can support up front.
