Many, many flowerboxes now adorn our sidewalks.
by Ben Gardiner
In the past year or so, a great number of flowerboxes have been added to several of our sidewalks, bringing beauty and charm to the neighborhood. It is a credit to the perseverance of those who have installed them and those who take care of them.
Thirty years or so ago, these same sidewalks were often littered with broken automobile parts and oil slicks left from owner-repair jobs on old cars.
Twenty years or so ago, the sidewalks were often strewn with litter from human hands and with dog excrement.
These changes have taken place because citizens took action and because everyone took responsibility.
